Benefits

Sour Diesel is one of the most iconic marijuana strains on the market, enhancing cannabis users’ lives since the 1990s.

Known for its unmistakable, pungent diesel smell, it also boasts an intriguing profile. This sativa-dominant bud showcases a high concentration of THC (ranging from 18 to 26%) that delivers a powerful high, complemented by substantial amounts of CBD (2%) and CBN (4%) for a soothing sensation. This combo results in a powerful, brain-awakening trip that will sweep you off your feet.

Onset

Replace your morning coffee with a Sour Diesel-wake and bake and instantly feel the refreshing energy rush through your mind. You will get a cerebral surge moments after smoking. As a super powerful mood-booster, it will leave you with a sense of appreciation for the simple things in life and unbeatable optimism. It is suitable for just about any work – whether cleaning your house, writing a poem, or creating music, it will make the experience more enjoyable and productive.

The high feels very “heady” throughout the trip, and you should not feel too many effects in your body, but beware, this strain is potent. It can take up to 5 hours to fully come down from your trip.

If you appreciate this strain’s sativa effects and citrusy taste and have a high THC tolerance, you may also enjoy Lemon Haze.

Uses

The surge of positive cerebral energy can be helpful for individuals with anxiety and depression by giving them new enthusiasm for days and tasks which previously may have seemed daunting. The energetic boost could also benefit people with chronic fatigue.

Its high caryophyllene content also provides anti-inflammatory benefits for pain and arthritis sufferers.

Side effects

High THC strains often result in dry mouth and eyes, and Sour Diesel is no exception here. Ensure you drink enough water to avoid discomfort. Although this potent sativa strain can enhance mood, overconsumption can have the opposite effect, increasing anxiety and agitation. Beginners should start with a drag and gradually increase the dose. Alternatively, they can try out milder strains like White Widow or Northern Lights.

This strain is highly energising and should be avoided at night unless you want to have a party.

The bright green, elongated buds are typically medium to large in size, glistening with sticky trichomes.

But what has made Sour Diesel so popular is its unmistakable smell, presenting as a mix of fuel, herbal and citrus aromas. Expect an earthy, typical dank flavour with a lemony aftertaste from limonene. While its strong odour may not be for everyone, it is what makes it beloved by fans of classic cannabis. This flower is particularly pungent; the smoke will linger wherever you inhale it for a long while after you are done. Be mindful as others around you may not like it.

Origins

Sour Diesel has been around for a while (since the 1990s), but there is still ongoing disagreement about its precise lineage. Some say its origins can be traced to a Grateful Dead tour in 1991. Despite several variations on its apparent ancestry, Chemdawg is the most likely to be one of the parents. Other strains, such as Diesel, Super Skunk, and Northern Lights, are also believed to be part of its genetic heritage.

Growing conditions

Growing this particular weed strain can be challenging, and if you are a novice grower, you should start this adventure elsewhere. However, you can cultivate Sour Diesel if you have had a few successful experiences growing other cannabis strains.

A low-humidity environment with plenty of sunshine and warmth is the most optimal for Sour Diesel. Growers will be rewarded in 10-12 weeks with tall plants reaching up to 3 meters high.

Due to this height, cultivating this strain outdoors might be more feasible – with indoor settings requiring extra care. However, as it is prone to powdery mildew, you must proactively take care of the plant’s surroundings. Moreover, the flower produces a potent and unmistakable odour as it matures in your garden, which makes your plant very difficult to conceal from your neighbours.

The growers’ efforts are compensated by a high yield of over 500 grams per square meter indoors and over 700 grams per outdoor plant.
