Benefits

Laughing Buddha is a sativa-dominant hybrid cannabis created from crossing two landrace sativas. Its high 20% THC content delivers potent cerebral effects characterised by a euphoric head high, guaranteeing ultimate good vibes only. As an added benefit, the notable amount of CBD (at 1.5% concentration) contributes to a gentle body high and physical relaxation.

Onset

As a strain that truly lives up to its name, Laughing Buddha leaves you in a happy, giggly, uplifted state within minutes of consumption. The cerebral high sets in quickly by inducing such happiness and euphoria that it will make you break into fits of laughter. For this reason, it is a highly social high that you will want to enjoy with your friends. Laughing Buddha is guaranteed to liven up any social event and bring tons of chuckles and joy. The mood uplift combined with a soft focus will be helpful for anyone, ranging from those struggling with depression and anxiety to those searching for inspiration to complete their daunting duties.

This energising flower is best for a little pick-me-up in the morning or afternoon. As one of the highs that feels organic and natural, it does not make you jittery or hyperactive as some other high sativa strains can. Towards the end of the trip, you can expect gentle relaxation, but you do not need to worry about a hard crash coming down – yet another one of the reasons that gave this strain its fame.

If you are a fan of this flower’s good vibes, you may also enjoy Green Crack or Pineapple Express.

Uses

Laughing Buddha can be used to treat mild pains and physical aches of all kinds, like headaches, back pains and menstrual cramps. However, the strain’s true potential lies in its ability to improve mental health conditions. Not only does it lift the mood and overall well-being tremendously, but it also provides a fresh creative outlook on life that helps see many problems from a new perspective. Moreover, the gentle body high effects will further contribute to anxiety reduction and allow for recovery from the effects of stress.

Side effects

The most common side effects of Laughing Buddha usage include dry eyes and dry mouth, so you will want to keep some water handy.

However, this potent sativa also causes feelings of anxiety and paranoia in some users. Beware of smoking too much, especially if you are using the strain for mental health conditions, as it can have an effect opposite to your desired one. We recommend starting with a drag or two and slowly increasing your consumption levels if needed.

Taste & Smell

Spicy
Earthy
Herbal

Laughing Buddha has a typical appearance with its light green, round buds and orange pistils. Its trichome count is lower than many other strains, so expect this plant to be slightly less shiny. Despite the rather average appearance, Laughing Buddha more than makes up for it with its aroma and flavour.

Above the herbal fragrance, which is dominated by myrcene with earthy hints, a strong layer of sweetness stands out in the scent. The bud’s flavour is even more complex, best described as a mix of sweet with spicy notes (facilitated by caryophyllene) and earthy, herbal, tea-like notes thanks to myrcene. Time and again, this strain has been cherished for its pleasant flavour.

Sativa

Origins

Laughing Buddha boasts an honourable heritage with two landrace strain parents: the Jamaican and Thai sativas, crossed in Amsterdam by Barney’s Farm. With such a cheerful fitting name and the effects that genuinely make you feel as joyous as the Laughing Buddha himself, the strain quickly got appreciation. It went on to win the 2003 Cannabis High Cup shortly after its release.

Growing conditions

Growing Laughing Buddha is a reasonably easy process, but it requires patience. The flowering time is 10 to 12 weeks – longer than the average time needed for other strains. While the plants are relatively short, usually standing between 75 to 100 cm tall, they produce a bountiful yield and reward growers with 450 to 625 grams per square metre indoors and over 600 grams per plant. Besides, the strain is highly resistant to tropical climate diseases, so it is well suited for outdoor cultivation in Thailand.
