Benefits

Acapulco Gold, a legendary sativa-dominant strain with 18-23% THC, has long been praised for its uplifting and energising effects. Also known for its striking golden hue and coffee flavour, the strain quickly captured the hearts around the globe after it was released to wider audiences.

As its name suggests, the strain has a rich history steeped in the sun-drenched shores of Acapulco, Mexico. Today, it has become increasingly harder to find, further adding to its appeal and popularity.

Onset

Acapulco Gold has a speedy onset, starting with an uplifting cerebral high. The effects represent a true sativa in every aspect of the word. You get a uniquely clear-headed trip with an immediate energy boost lasting about 2 hours. With these uplifting and stimulating effects, tasks will seem easy to handle. Think of finishing a complex project from work or that dreaded seasonal cleaning. Acapulco Gold will make these tasks immensely more enjoyable and achievable.

This strain is an excellent party starter – you will appreciate the uplift and euphoria it gives you and your friends. As soon as you open your bag, you are guaranteed to turn a few heads around and befriend strangers, being so chatty and at ease.

Towards the end of your trip, you will get a little calmer thanks to the calming properties of myrcene. Luckily, it is nothing near a couch lock so you can go on with your day as usual.

Acapulco Gold will work great as a wake-and-bake strain, giving you more energy than your average cup of Joe.

Uses

With its uplifting effects, Acapulco Gold can prove helpful to anyone struggling with stress, mood disorders or anxiety. Additionally, it may be a good wake-and-bake strain for individuals with chronic fatigue who need a little extra boost to start their day on the right foot. The anti-inflammatory benefits, bolstered by caryophyllene, will relieve pain, muscle spasms and migraines.

Side effects

Most side effects associated with Acapulco Gold are mild cases of eye and mouth dehydration. However, users occasionally report headaches, increased anxiety and paranoia. Therefore, novice users should start with a small amount and gradually increase their intake. As a predominantly sativa strain, it’s best consumed during daytime hours to avoid potential sleep disturbances.

Acapulco Gold is a magnificent sensory delight. The buds are adorned with a unique golden hue, sparkling trichomes and abundant sticky resin. They release a luscious aroma, with sweet and earthy fragrances and a predominant hint of pine and citrus. These sensations are topped up by a strong, bitter coffee aroma, making Acapulco Gold smell special and unique.

The flavour mirrors the aroma, featuring a buttercream and honey sweetness blend on the inhale and pungent pine undertones on the exhale.

Sativa

Origins

The genetic lineage of Acapulco Gold remains quite mysterious to this day. We only know that it can be traced back to the sun-soaked shores of Acapulco, Mexico. As a landrace strain, it had been around for quite a while before hitting the US market in the 1960s. Its parents were likely other native sativa strains.

With such a long history, it is no wonder that Acapulco Gold gets all the hype it rightly deserves. High Times Magazine honoured it as one of the best strains of all time in 2014.

Growing conditions

Acapulco Gold originated outdoors, and it prefers such an environment where it can bask in ample sunlight and heat. As a result, Thai enthusiasts can grow this strain outside quite successfully. The bigger challenge is finding the seeds that still resemble the strain in their original form.

If you get your hand on good seeds, you may need patience, as Acapulco Gold tends to have a longer flowering time than usual, around 10-11 weeks. An outdoor harvest typically falls in late October. Being a naturally outdoor strain, it is fairly low maintenance with high mildew and mould resistance. Indoor cultivation can also be attempted with some success if you are interested. Yields are typically up to 450 grams per square metre indoors and around 550 grams per outdoor plant.
