Thai CBD flower

One of the most common ways of consuming cannabidiol (CBD) is through tinctures and oils. Smoking CBD flowers may be uncommon, but it is a good way to enjoy the ‘sober’ side of cannabis. Since cannabis was decriminalised in Thailand in 2022, hemp CBD flowers are also finding their way into the dispensaries – alongside your regular marijuana buds.

If you are new to CBD flowers or are looking to buy them online, consider this as a beginner’s guide.

Weed Review explains what hemp flowers are, their effects and benefits, and where to buy CBD online.

What are CBD flowers?

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a molecule found in cannabis plants. Unlike its crazy cousin THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is non-psychoactive and non-intoxicating – it does not get you high.

Hemp CBD flowers have a high amount of CBD and a low amount of THC (less than 0.2-0.3% per legal norms).

CBD buds come from hemp plants (a specific variety of cannabis sativa) – an amazing, versatile plant that humans have grown for thousands of years. People have used hemp to make rope, clothes, bags, food, and more. The hemp industry is quite big in Thailand, and the flowers from the plant are used to extract CBD for cannabidiol oils – and now, to sell them as a whole to consumers.

Of course, it is possible to get CBD buds from non-hemp plants as well (your regular cannabis plants from which you get marijuana buds) – but they may have some amount of THC.

Pure CBD flowers will most likely be hemp-derived as hemp plants traditionally contain low levels of THC. In fact, industrial hemp grown for fibre, seeds, and making cannabidiol oils will have less than 0.2% THC.

Is CBD Legal in Thailand?

CBD is legal in Thailand. All CBD products, including CBD flowers, are completely legal in Thailand. You can buy, possess, and smoke CBD buds.

However, do not smoke CBD in public. It can be considered marijuana smoke, and the cops may fine you.

Traits of CBD flowers

When you look at a high-quality CBD hemp flower and a weed bud like Jack Herrer or Gelato, you cannot tell the difference. They smell, feel, and look just like cannabis.

Properly, passionately grown CBD flowers will be rich in terpenes and trichomes. A good CBD flower will have a lively, colourful look with plenty of red hairs and trichomes. Thanks to its terpene profile, it can smell like nutmeg, lemon, vanilla, candy, rosemary, mango, or orange.

Ultimately, it comes down to how the hemp flowers are grown and harvested. A dedicated, loving grower harvests the buds at the right time, cures them with patience, so the trichomes come out, and stores them suitably.

CBD needs the same focus as growing as regular cannabis flowers. CBD buds also contain the different cannabinoids that you would find in marijuana.

But what separates the two is the THC content. CBD flowers will have less THC content – ranging from 1-5% or even less. If the THC content is more than CBD, it is no longer a CBD flower but a weed bud.

Effects of CBD Hemp Flowers

If you are wondering if smoking CBD flowers will get you high, the answer is no. The high comes from THC, which must be less than 0.2% in hemp flowers.

However, across many dispensaries in Thailand, it is common to find CBD strains that have THC content varying from 3-8%. This can cause a mild high, but the intensity will depend on cannabis tolerance and sensitivity.

If you want to buy CBD flowers online or in stores, choose reputed brands that only source CBD from hemp plants. Even then, you may feel a smooth, subtle high due to the entourage effect – thanks to all the terpenes and other cannabinoids.

As for the effects of cannabidiol, plenty of research has been done to support CBD’s wellness profile. CBD can help with:

It is important to note that most of these effects have been studied through oral CBD products. You may feel some of these when you smoke CBD flowers directly, but the intensity and effectiveness will likely vary.

How to use CBD

There are a few ways you can consume CBD. Popular options are:

Smoking may not be suitable for those who have lung/breathing problems. Vape may be a better alternative as you don’t inhale the tar or other harmful carcinogens; instead, you inhale steam from the plant.

How it feels smoking CBD

Smoking CBD is much like smoking THC – it has the same smell and taste. However, you will not get high.

You may feel your heartbeat increase initially but expect some calmness and relief overall. If you have pain or soreness in your body, it will ease as CBD enters your system.
