Benefits
Purple Kush, a pure indica strain boasting THC levels between 17% and 27%, is celebrated for its sweet fruity aroma and profoundly relaxing effects. Bred from two esteemed landrace varieties, it boasts a stunning lineage. This strain presents a harmony between mental calm and physical tranquillity, making it an excellent choice for those seeking relief from pain or tension. Purple Kush was also named as one of the top 10 Kush strains by High Times magazine in 2016.
Onset
Purple Kush excels in mellowing you down with its powerful and swift impact. Almost instantaneously, you will be immersed in a profound sense of relaxation, with your body becoming so weightless that you might need to lie down. This tranquillity will also translate into a warm, uplifting, cosy high where worries disappear and you feel at peace.
It calms the restless mind so effectively that it leaves no room for stress and concerns. With its gentle euphoria, it also serves as a splendid companion for a chill night with friends. You will find yourself chatty and cheerful, though not very active. Thanks to being a purely indica strain, the mental effects are limited to a minimum. So do not expect an overload of fantastic creative ideas. However, a few strains can rival Purple Kush’s prowess if you are looking for relaxation and relief.
While Purple Kush will make a perfect end-of-day smoke, we would not recommend it in the middle of the day when you still have tasks on your to-do list. The potent high can last several hours, so leave this strain for those blissful moments when you can afford to pause and unwind.
If you like this strain, consider trying Granddaddy Purple or Northern Lights.
Uses
Purple Kush’s powerful relaxing properties make it a good therapeutic tool. Its soothing indica characteristics and anti-inflammatory caryophyllene content render it an excellent option for pain management, particularly for those with chronic pain, muscle pain, and arthritis. As it helps users clear the mind of heavy thoughts and feelings, it can help alleviate symptoms of depression and mood disorders if used in moderate amounts.
Purple Kush’s calming and relaxing effects, enhanced by linalool and myrcene, are highly potent in relieving anxiety, stress, and PTSD. The strain can lull users into a peaceful and deep sleep, easing insomnia if used before bed.
Side effects
The strain is a popular choice due to how few side effects there are to its consumption. The most common ones include dry mouth and eyes and occasional mild dizziness. However, as a high-THC flower, Purple Kush may still induce anxiety or paranoia in sensitive users. Therefore, beginners and those sensitive to THC should start with a small amount and gradually increase it as needed.
Taste & Smell
Purple Kush offers a vibrant sensory experience. It has a typical indica presentation with heavy, tightly packed buds. These flowers captivate your attention with beautiful colours, spanning all shades of green, red and purple. The bright orange pistils and a thick white coating of glimmering, resinous trichomes further add to the visual allure.
The scent is equally enticing: Purple Kush smells sweet and fruity with a note of distinct Afghani, musky earthiness. The fruity, floral notes can be found in the flavour, too, complemented by the hashy earthiness once again. On the exhale, you will feel a sugary grape taste in your mouth, reminiscent of sweet wine.
Origins
Hailing from California’s Oakland region, Purple Kush emerged as a marvel in the 1990s. A distinguished member of the Cannabis Indica family, this strain results from an exquisite crossing between two landrace strains: the Hindu Kush and the enchanting Purple Afghani. This union has given Purple Kush a royal lineage that has handed it deeply relaxing effects and delicious flavours.
Growing conditions
Growing Purple Kush requires adherence to a few guidelines but is generally manageable. Outdoor cultivation can prove challenging for several reasons: this pure indica grows very bushy and short, barely ever reaching 1 metre in height. As such, ensuring the horizontal leaves get enough sunlight isn’t easy.
In addition, while the plant is naturally resistant to mould, mildew and pests, it can still rot if wet. Indoor cultivation allows more control over these factors and gives higher yields. Generally, the growers can expect the plant to flower within eight weeks with 225-250 grams per plant outdoors and 400-425 grams per square metre indoors.
