Benefits
Purple Haze is a classic strain that has been around since the 1960s. A sativa-dominant hybrid, this flower is often linked to a famous Jimi Hendrix track of the same name. It has its roots in Thai landrace and Haze strains and is popular in Thailand due to its origins and effects. The THC levels vary between 14-22% and create euphoria, creativity, and energy that may seem out of the world to many.
Onset
“Purple Haze all around
Don’t know if I’m comin’ up or down”
When Jimi Hendrix wrote these lyrics, it is only fair to wonder if he did it after smoking Purple Haze or because he was in love. It is a mystery lost to the sands of time, but the song does justice to the strain – or is it the strain doing justice to the song?
Purple Haze induces psychedelic-like cerebral effects that hit as soon as you smoke it. It all starts with an intense head rush and some odd feelings, but these disappear soon and make way for a higher sense of thinking. It is thought-provoking and stimulating – everything you would expect from a pure sativa. Your mind runs freely to form new ideas, make new connections, or find inspiration that may have seemed like a distant dream. Your senses may be heightened, bringing you closer to your surroundings. You may find yourself lost in abstract thoughts and things that may seem uninteresting.
This marijuana strain can bring out your talkative side while removing your inhibitions. It provides a euphoric effect that is perfect for a night out with friends or alone when seeking creative inspiration.
When taken with the right company, Purple Haze becomes an aphrodisiac and helps sweeten intimacy with your partner.
Uses
If you’re looking for an energising strain with long-lasting uplifting effects, Purple Haze is a good choice – especially for daytime and morning use. It can improve mood and alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, provided the doses are monitored carefully. Moreover, it can be helpful for people who struggle with chronic fatigue, laziness, nausea, or loss of appetite.
Side effects
Common side effects of Purple Haze include dry mouth, red eyes, and dizziness. Owing to its potency to induce a strong mental high, some users may also experience worsened anxiety and paranoia when taken in high doses. The strain is not recommended for beginners or people diagnosed with severe mental disorders. If you are taking this flower for mood elevation, be mindful of how much you consume.

Taste & Smell
Purple Haze is named after the song, as well as the brilliant lavender-purple hue that covers the flower. This trait, however, is more prominent when the flower has been grown in cold climates; otherwise, you may expect a dark-green bud with plenty of orange pistils and subtle hints of purple. The nugs are medium-to-big sized and have a spade-like shape with a pointed tip. A properly cured bud will have plenty of trichome crystals, which account for its intense psychoactive high.
Coming to the taste and smell, Purple Haze has a sweet, fruity scent – almost similar to blueberries – blended with spicy, musty notes. This combination of sweet and spicy is pretty pungent, dank, and almost unmistakable. It tastes quite similar – a berry-like sweetness mixed with sharp earthy, spicy flavours.
Origins of Purple Haze
Purple Haze is a cross between Purple Thai and the iconic Haze. It is hard to say where this strain came from and when it rose to prominence, but we know it has been around since the psychedelic era of the 60s and the 70s. The Jimi Hendrix track has undoubtedly played its part in making it popular, while modern growers have built upon its famed lineage to give us the potent, psychedelic Purple Haze we have today.
Growing conditions
Purple Haze is not a tricky plant to grow, but it does require some experience. Like most sativas, it can grow tall – between 1.5 to 2 metres, so there has to be some upkeep. The plant can grow indoors and outdoors, but in the latter case, it thrives in a warm, sunny climate. This cannabis variety is resistant to diseases and has a flowering time of 8-10 weeks indoors. Purple Haze has a generous yield; when cultivated properly, it can produce up to 550 grams per metre square indoors, while outside, it varies between 300-400 grams per plant.
